Highlights
  • Chand Baori (Step well) - The place is popular for the amazing ‘Boris’ (step wells). The village of Abhaneri is believed to be established by the King Raja Chand. Originally Abhaneri was named as Abha Nagri, which means the city of brightness, but due to the mispronunciation of the term, it is changed to the present name.Step wells are the unique concept of India. These big tanks were used as cool places of resort and water reservoir in parched days. It was a ritual to wash hands and feet before visiting the temple. Adjoining the Chand Baori,
  • Harshat Mata Temple - Adjoining the baori is the architecturally splendid and sculpturally beautiful Harshat Mata Temple. Many of its pillars, columns, statues now lie scattered in the temple courtyard and in the corridors of the structure. The temple was dedicated to Harshat Mata, believed to be the goddess of happiness and joy, who spread her glow and brightness (abha) around the town.
  • Monkey Temple - The temple complex of Ramgopalji temple is colloquially known as Monkey temple (Galwar Bagh - Galtaji) in travel literature, due to the large tribe of monkeys who live here in the temples, which have been largely abandoned and only partially restored

Good expirence in Jaipur - Abhaneri (both stepwell and the Harshat Mata Temple next to the stepwell) was great and well explained by a local tour guide living there. The monkey temple is ok, even this part of the tour is not guided and the temple is quite dirty and untidy. Mr. Sandeep, the driver, did a great job taking care of me all the time and giving historical details about Jaipur city and useful tips before entering the monkey temple. Great the backoffice organization too.

Day trip to Chand Baori - A very easy trip to Abhaneri with Rakesh as my driver. Chand Baori is very much worth a visit if you are interested in architecture! Rakesh was a very helpful and safe driver.

Single day tour of Abhaneri, Sun Temple and Monkey Temple - Janu Private Tours provided an excellent day of guided exploration. I booked the tour only the day before the scheduled day and this was not a problem. All communication was very prompt and conducted via WhatsApp. My driver and tour guide was Rakesh. He met me promptly at the hotel. His driving was excellent and I felt very safe at all times. Rakesh gave me the choice of hiring a guide or going guide-free for each site, which I liked a lot. Rakesh also accommodated my wish to pick up some wedding clothes at the end of the day - he took me to good retailers and waited while I shopped - this was a great help and above and beyond what was detailed in the itinerary. I would use Rakesh and Janu Private Tours again without hesitation.

Absolutely fabulous day with an absolute fabulous guide! - I contacted Janu Tours via email before leaving the United States for India to inquire if they would do a same day tour to Abhaneri for a solo female traveler. The owner, Janu, responded immediately and told me not to worry they would love to handle my tour. I did not expect that Janu himself would be my guide! He was absolutely fantastic. During the drive, I sat up front with him and peppered him with questions about Indian life, culture, the sites, you name it (this was my first trip to India). The tour itself was great but was even greater was the personal attention he devoted to making my experience amazing. He showed me places that were off the beaten path that I would never have known even existed. I definitely recommend that you enilist his services if you are in India at any time for any reason. Janu, hope to see you again soon! All the best!

A very good experience - My day trip started just in time with Rakesh picking me up at my hotel. After a quick stop at HSBC agency to withdraw some cash we headed to Abhaneri. What impressed me first was his careful driving - you’ll know what I mean when you visit India. Once in Abhaneri he suggested me to hire a local guide that I declined - the place is so small and you can read about the place in other sources. The stepwell is an impressive intricate construction and it is really in good shape. Immediately across, was the ruins of Harshat Mata, a small temple. On the way back to Jaipur, we’re stopped for chai and snacks. The drive to Monkey Temple took about one hour using an alternative way. That visit was interesting not only for the temple itself but because a group of people were celebrating a ceremony. After an hour I was back to the car. Since it was early, Rakesh suggested me to visit a place to see how rugs and paint print were made. This was disappointing because once the 5 minute tour was finished they took to the store and tryed to push me to by anything - that almost ruined my day trip. Well, Rakesh made it up to me apologizing and promised not to take anyone there again unless they look for souvenirs. This was a great day trip and this honest company will take good care of you, especially if you driver is Rakesh.

Good tour but guide not included. - The tour was very nice and the driver was exceptionally great. But I had a surprise during the tour: the driver was included, but the guide was not included, so I paid extra to local guides in each monument. Despite of that, it was great experience.
